Who Pays to Remove a Tree When it Falls On Your Property?
Having trees fall in your yard during a hurricane sucks.
It sucks even more when a neighbors tree falls on your yard. The first question (okay, second question, after “is everyone alright?”) is typically “Who pays for the damage and removal?”
Here’s a quick rundown of the general rule of thumb:
Your tree, your house:
your insurance pays to remove the tree and for the damage to your home.
Your tree, neighbor’s house:
neighbor’s insurance pays.
Neighbor’s tree, your house:
your insurance pays.
Your tree, falls in the yard, doesn’t hit anything:
you pay out of pocket for the removal.
Bear in mind, I’m not a lawyer, it’s not legal advice, I claim no responsibility, blah, blah, blah.
